System Performance and Economic Analysis of a Phase Change Material Based Cold Energy Storage Container for Cold Chain Transportation

We studied a shipping container integrated with phase change material (PCM) based thermal energy storage (TES) units for cold chain transportation applications. A 40 ft was used, which installed ten plate-like TES containing PCM and charging loop. An appropriate selected meeting the requirement of fresh vegetables (7-12°C). The loop linked to separate facility via quick coupling valves. discharging performance under dynamic conditions investigated. COP system estimated be 1.73. Economic analyses showed that operation costs PCM-based were, respectively, 71.3% 85.6% lower than same but powered by diesel engine (called reefer container). results also able maintain not only temperature range (7-12°C) humidity (85-95%), leading better quality longer shelf-life goods.
